When do subject outline changes come into effect?
The changes described in the new subject outline come into effect in 2025.
Have subject resources, including Learning and Assessment Plans (LAPs) been updated to reflect the changes?
Each subject has at least one LAP that is consistent with the subject outline changes. Teachers who are currently using an established LAP should check it against the subject outline changes and make any necessary adjustments. For support and guidance, please refer to the updated LAP checklist on our website (also included on each subject page).
Other subject resources that require updating have been temporarily removed from our website. Updated resources for subjects will be added to the website in January 2025. Similarly, PLATO resources will be reviewed and updated before the end of Term 1, 2025.
Where do I find the new subject outline?
Subject Outlines are now in Word document format and have been published on the SACE Board website, following the usual subject search, navigate to the Overview page. There are separate outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2.
How do I find out what has changed in the subject outlines?
Subject outline changes are summarised in a change log at the front of every subject outline. The change log will continue to provide teachers with a yearly summary of subject changes.
Why does my subject also have a subject outline that says it is for teaching in 2024?
For subjects that are taught in the northern hemisphere as part of our SACE International program, these teachers need access to the subject outline until the end of their school year, which is April/May. Australian and other southern hemisphere schools can ignore subject outlines that include “for teaching in 2024” in the title.
There used to be a full list of changes for every subject in one pdf. Where is that?
Instead of publishing a full list of changes, we have indicated the changes to a subject outline in the subject outlines themselves.
To ensure clarity and consistency, we have introduced a change log at the front of every subject outline that will summarise year-to-year changes. Next to the summary of each change, we have included a clickable page reference to explore the change in more detail.
How did you come up with these changes? What was the process?
Community feedback was sought on the subject outlines changes that would create space for teaching and learning.
Approximately 2,000 teachers in South Australia and the Northern Territory informed the subject improvements through a series of 122 face-to-face and online curriculum forums, covering all SACE subjects, during term 2, 2024.
During the review and development of recommendations, we consulted with lead practitioners and subject associations about the impact of the recommendations.
Are there any changes to performance standards?
Some subjects have had changes to performance standards. These changes were to remove ambiguity and support assessment decisions. Please check in the subject outline if this applies to your subject.
Are there any changes to assessment type weightings?
A few subjects have had weighting changes. They are Stage 2 Language and Culture, Stage 2 Languages Continuers, and Stage 2 Languages Background. Please check the subject outline for further information.
Are there any changes to stage 2 investigations?
Most subjects that only allowed written mode now allow for oral or multimodal options. Please check in the subject outline if this applies to your subject.
Are there any changes to Stage 2 Exams?
There are no changes to exams, except one change to Language Continuers oral and written exams.
My subject doesn’t have many resources available, when will more be put on the website?
To support teachers with their planning, we have ensured that each subject has at least one LAP that is consistent with the subject outline changes. Teachers who are currently using an established LAP should check it against the subject outline changes and make any necessary adjustments. For support and guidance, please refer to the “LAP checklist” on our website and on each subject page.
Other subject resources that require updating have been temporarily removed from our website. Updated resources for subjects will be added to the website in January 2025. Similarly, PLATO resources will be reviewed and updated before the end of Term 1, 2025.
Can I get to my new subject site through my old bookmark?
No, you will have to resave your subject site to your bookmarks.
Are there any professional learning workshops about the subject outline changes?
No, the nature of improvements to subject outlines do not significantly impact teaching and assessment practice.
