School assessment and moderation
School assessments are those that are set and carried out by schools, in accordance with subject outlines. In a Stage 1 subject, all student work is assessed by the school. In a Stage 2 subject, 70% of student work is assessed by the school, with 30% assessed externally.
As teachers, you are supported in your assessment role by the moderation process. Moderation is part of the confirming phase of the quality assurance cycle and confirms your interpretation of the performance standards before your students receive their final subject grades.
After moderation, we provide feedback to your principal on the outcome. You can use this feedback to improve your planning and assessment for the following year.
